Army Windsurf Championships 2019

Published 8:55am on 19 Mar 2020

Last week (9th to 13th March) the 2019 Army Windsurf Championships were held at the Army Inshore Sail Training Centre on Thorney Island. This was re- run from the original dates in June 2019 due to event not running due to lack of wind for the Open fleet to race (however the novice and foiling events ran in June 2019). Winds were strong for the week and with a good turn out from the other Corps (RE, RLC, AMS, AAC, REME, INF) provided great competitive racing.

The RA had the following Open fleet riders in attendance for the week:

Lt Col A Greenfield, SSgt N Barnes, Sgt J Kerrison (RESERVIST), Bdr L Jackson.

The final results for the week saw:

Bdr Lee Jackson (16RA) receiving 3rd place in the Master Blaster (4 races run) and winner of the Masters trophy (for age gap 35-40). SSgt N Barnes (16 RA) receiving 3rd place in the Long distance (8 laps) and 2nd place in the Slalom (6 races run).

The Royal Artillery walked away in 1st place as Inter-Corps Champions (Trophy to be awarded when found!) with the RLC in 2nd and RE in 3rd. This achievement was not only down to the results from this re-run event but also the results from the Novice and Foil events earlier in 2019. (Novice 1st Gnr Whitehouse 16RA, Novice 2nd Gnr Elliot 16RA and Foiling 3rd Bdr Jackson).
