73rd RA Keelboat Regatta Seaview 21/22 May 2019 Sponsored by THALES
The 73rd RA Keelboat Regatta was held at Seaview Yacht Club on the Isle of Wight, on Tues 21 and Wed 22 May 19.Overall 8 crews competed in the event, many new to sailing the 24ft Mermaids.Units competing this year were 5 Regt RA, 14 Regt RA, 2 teams from 47 Regt RA and 2 crews from the HAC, not forgetting Hawley Harriers helmed by Matthew Sleap and last but by no means least a boat skippered by the Commodore, Col Wilson.
On day 1 Seaview was bathed in glorious sunshine, however a slight lack of wind. This did not deter the crews and Racing began after a very short familiarisation period. The wind for the day varied between just enough and a little more, having said this there were still 5 cracking races.
Day 2 began with leisurely breakfast due to the wind or severe lack of, however by mid-morning things picked up and we made it back on the water for another 4 races. As the wind picked up so did the level of enjoyment and competition. The Admiral joined the Commodore's crew for the final 2 races, before coming ashore for prize giving. For Photos please view the gallery.
