ARMY Windsurf Championships 2020

Published 6:25pm on 31 Oct 2020

The Army Windsurf Champs 2020 took place on the waters off AISTC over the week 19-23 October. Due to covid restrictions numbers were capped at 15 from across the Army.

The RA had 2 personnel in attendance, SSgt Barnes and SSgt Kerrison (Reservist) both in the open fleet. RA number were low due to other windsurfers being unavailable for the dates.

The week saw races conducted in Slalom, Master Blaster and Foiling. The winds and tide state were testing with large amounts of sea weed causeing issues for all.

The final result unfortunately saw the AMS take the Inter Corps champions title with the REME in second place.

However as individuals:

SSgt Barnes took the title of Army Windsurf Foil Champion 2020, after racing 4 course races with 2 of these races being won by a board length.

SSgt Kerrison took the most improved windsurfer for 2020, for his ability on the race course in the open fleet and racing in the foil fleet with only 1 day of training on a foil
