RAYC Members' Update
Dear All - Without wishing to jump the gun you will be unsurprised to hear that your committee have been holding informal discussions in the background as to how we resume activity once we are able. To be clear there are plenty of hurdles, but none are insurmountable. A major positive is just how fortunate we are to have such a great and exclusive organisation to provide high quality activity for our soldiers, members and families when other leisure options are going to be limited for the short to medium term. I have kept this brief, so as ever please do feel free to get in touch with any Qs or points. Here is what we discussed tonight on our rogues' gallery chat:
Offshore charters. We are following govt, MOD, RYA, and industry advice. Some marinas are reopening now but will not allow crews or visitors to overnight - day sailing only. We are actively working to mitigate risk and the yachts will be available for charter (both are in the water in Premier Marina) as soon as govt advice permits. The bookings system remains open: caveats are we may need to insert an 'off period' 48hrs between bookings at any stage for safe crew change, and crew composition can expect to be limited. Note the updated T&Cs - you can book into the summer with confidence.
AISTC. Jed and James have a plan in-place to resume activity as and when possible. Not yet: key factors are staff/instr, and the availability of facilities and status of TI Station.
Offshore Regatta. Plan to go ahead in some form on same dates. Decision point pre-Summer leave.
2021. We are looking at options for Tall Ships and a Canaries deployment.
AGM. Will go ahead sooner rather than later, virtually. The reality is we will not attract/be able to hold a high attendance in-person event at Larkhill any time soon. Date and dial-in details to follow from Hon Sec.
Membership. I remain grateful to Colin and Matthew (and supporting acts) for the gargantuan task of getting membership onto the new system. If you are reading this and have not switched then please get in touch to do so. As a Club our members are our lifeline. I know none of us would be as short-sighted to suggest a limited return on subs for this year: it is about belonging to, and upholding, a great institution.
Best as ever,
Colonel Chris Gent
